I am a firm believer that it is the most unreasonable person that has the most success. Think about a person you think is successful and I guarantee you are thinking about someone who is or was unreasonable.
All your life you have been told to be "reasonable and realistic." Parents and friends saying things like, "Get your head out of the clouds, stop day dreaming, you have to be realistic." Although well-meaning, what has that advice gotten you?
The salmon is the most unreasonable creature on earth. After living most of their adult life in the ocean, they travel back home to their birthplace to lay eggs. They swim against the current avoiding bears and many other obstacles.
Like the salmon, to achieve your ultimate success, you are going to have to go against the stream and battle obstacles. It makes sense to go with the flow on most things but certain things it is critical to have a salmon-like approach. History has shown us that breakthroughs are made by the unreasonable ones.
Here are 5 steps to the unreasonable you:
1. Identify your ultimate goal & anticipate obstacles.
It makes little sense to be unreasonable about every thing. Find the "right" obstacles to attack.
2. Build your courage & willpower.
Being unreasonable requires courage. Courage is like a muscle that can be exercised. Find small ways to build up your courage muscles so they are ready when you need them.
3. See yourself there.
Visualize yourself reaching your goal and overcoming the unreasonable.
4. Get support.
Make sure you have people in your circle that will support you as the challenges get tougher. There is no such thing as the singular genius; everybody needs help.
5. Massive action.
Once you have a plan and have identified the obstacles, take action! Momentum is created through action.
